What is a Bankruptcy Discharge and How Long Do I have to Wait for it?
A Discharge means that your case is complete and your debts have been discharged. You are protected by something called the “stay” all during your bankruptcy so you will not be harrassed or sued by creditors all during your case once it has been filed. That is because the “stay” goes into effect immediately upon filing your case. A Chapter 7 discharges in 3.5 months after the filing date and a Chapter 13 can discharge in 1 to 5 years although most cases have plans that range from 3 to 5 years.
